THE GREAT MEDIA GROUP · OREGON + SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON

Slavic community advertising in Oregon

Local context makes better outreach.

Connect your business with Slavic, Ukrainian and Russian-speaking communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington through media choices grounded in local context.

The Great Media Group brings together KXPD 1040 AM, Afisha Magazine and Maidan Newspaper, alongside video production, web design and social media marketing. Start with whom you want to serve and what you want them to do. Then discuss the language, geography, creative and placements that fit.

Portland and Vancouver: a regional community

The City of Portland’s January 2024 Slavic and Eastern European Heritage Week proclamation describes over 150,000 Slavic and Eastern European people in the greater Portland area. This is the proclamation’s community estimate, not an Oregon statewide Census count, a count of Russian speakers or a measured media audience.

For a business serving Portland, Vancouver, Beaverton, Hillsboro or Gresham, define the locations where you can actually deliver your service. Language, ancestry, birthplace and community identity measure different things. A Russian-language message is not automatically the right message for every Slavic or Ukrainian customer.

Including Central Asian communities

The same proclamation describes ancestry from all 15 former Soviet countries and 14 Eastern European countries. That geographic scope includes the Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. This explains the proclamation’s broad framing; it does not provide a separate Central Asian count or a country-by-country breakdown. City proclamation · United Nations country classifications.

Central Asian, Ukrainian and other national identities are distinct. Country of origin does not determine ethnicity, preferred language or media use. We plan outreach around the people you want to serve.

Woodburn’s Russian Orthodox Old Believer community

Woodburn and the surrounding Willamette Valley have a long-established Old Believer community. The Oregon Encyclopedia’s Woodburn profile reports an estimated 10,000 Old Believers in the city and surrounding area in 2022. Its history describes migration through countries including China, Turkey, Brazil and Argentina before settlement in Oregon.

For advertisers interested in Woodburn’s Old Believer community, respectful outreach starts with local context. This community has distinct traditions and communication preferences; belonging to it does not imply a particular media habit. Share your business location and service area, then ask us to confirm suitable channels, print distribution and location-specific radio reception.

Population context is not guaranteed reach

Community estimates and Census-derived figures are useful for understanding the region, but they do not tell you how many people will see an ad. Our source notes distinguish ancestry, language-access subsets and community estimates. Ask for current platform information, schedule, distribution and any available reporting when requesting a quote.
